Reviews for Sumas Mountain Farms
Sumas Mountain Farms has garnered a mix of reviews, highlighting both the quality of their products and some areas for improvement. Many customers appreciate the high-quality, locally grown meat and the farm’s commitment to organic farming practices. Brooke Pagé, a loyal customer, emphasizes their dedication to local and organic produce, noting that the meat is consistently top quality and delicious. She particularly enjoys the availability of rare offal cuts.
However, not all experiences align with this high praise. Christy Pham raised concerns about the flavor of their pasture-raised eggs compared to others she has tried. Although she initially had a disappointing experience, she later praised their bone broth, remarking on its rich flavor and culinary quality. This contrast underscores how individual experiences can vary.
Several reviewers expressed admiration for the seamless ordering process and efficient delivery. Denise Pang highlighted how easy it was to place an order and the quality of the meat she received, describing the cross-rib roast as a true representation of meat quality. Customers also appreciate the friendly delivery service and the farm's ethical practices.
On the other hand, M Francois critiqued the chicken offerings, suggesting that they fall short compared to traditional heritage breeds. This showcases a desire among some customers for even higher quality poultry options. Furthermore, there are requests for a broader variety of organ meats and specialty cuts.
In summary, Sumas Mountain Farms stands out for its commitment to quality and local agriculture, while also facing critiques that reflect the diverse expectations of their customer base.

My family and I have been clients of Sumas for years now, and are proud to support local and organic. It is hard to find trustworthy, local meat products nowadays, and Sumas has always gone over and above to give information of how they raise their animals well. They are super passionate about sharing helpful information to their customers. They deliver quickly and efficiently and their products are always top quality delicious. Love that they have rare offal cuts regularly. I only wish they had more of their salami and pepperoni regularly (i've only been able to get it a few times) it is DELICIOUS and I cannot find this quality anywhere else.

I am aware pasture-raised eggs can have yellow yolk depending on diet, however these yellow yolked eggs had no flavor compared to the other local pasture-raised eggs I get when I ate them side by side. Also difficult to contact them as they do not reply to emails or answer calls. This was just my honest experience, others may have had a better experience than me and that is good. However based on my personal experience, I would not recommend this place.
EDIT: It's funny you try to downplay my honest experience by juding me as a frequent eater of fast food and labelling me as not health conscious. Me eating the occassional junk food has nothing to do with my experience here. I actually eat very clean in general. If I was not health conscious, why would I purchase pasture-raised eggs over regular, cheaper store bought eggs? It makes no sense; there's fallacy in your post. Also not sure what purchasing meats has anything to do with my experience of purchasing your "pasture-rasied eggs". I don't need to purchase meats to write a review on another product your farm sells. Again, no relevancy. Sorry but your eggs taste the same as the ones at Walmart.
UPDATE: I want to apologize as it was unfair of me to quickly judge after only trying their eggs so I'm updating my review. Had zero expectations about the bone broth after being disappointed with their eggs but the bone broth was surprisingly very delicious. The depth of flavor from the broth was superior- very rich meaty/umami, smoky, and just the perfect balance of spices. By far the best bone broth I've ever tried and it makes sense why their bone broth is often sold out fast. From just the flavor of the bone broth itself, I can tell that their meat products would also probably taste very rich in flavor.

I had been an email subscriber for well over a year. Always meant to put in an order and never got to it.. Finally made an order last week. The entire process was seamless, efficient, entirely straightforward and so easy; submitted the order online, rec'd an email with an invoice, paid via e-transfer, given a window of delivery and what to expect. The delivery was awesome. I happened to be there when they arrived and the lady was kind and lovely! If I hadn't been there, the package itself was so well-sealed, insulated and protected; it would have been fine had I not been there for a few hours. I made a Guinness-based cross-rib pot roast that same night - and I can tell you; this is the real deal. I'm now wondering what mystery cut I was receiving from the grocery store as this was a true cross-rib roast. Lots of connective tissue, softened and full of flavour and incredible texture. So far so good! Looking forward to going through the rest of my order, but wanted to put in a review right away and say Thank You. My family is impressed and I'm very glad to support such a hard-working and ethical BC based business. Side-note: the negative reviews on Google are a head-scratcher. I cannot understand how the ordering/fulfillment isn't already the most efficient way to go. From a long-time lurker to another: Put in an order tonight and look forward to having the most incredible dinner. Just try. You won't be disappointed.

I think Sumas Farm offers the best quality chicken and beef in BC and possibly Canada. For lamb, I’m not sure—there are probably other great grass-fed, grass-finished farms. However, I’m giving them 3 stars because I find it disappointing that it’s nearly impossible to find good-quality chicken in this country. I wish farms would raise heritage chickens, not the white, fattened chicks or inbred hen embryos. I can tell just by the smell and taste when chicken is low quality. I wish Sumas Farm did a better job with their chicken, as they excel in almost everything else. For example, they don’t age their meat for too long, which is great because it keeps histamine levels low—I'd give them 5 stars for that. But their chicken, though likely the best you can find in Canada, is still subpar to any chicken product i was growing up on in Europe, taste, texture quality smell, composition of fat cant compare, which is sad and hopefully will change one day.
I’d gladly pay more for fully natural heritage chickens that eat scraps and a bit of grain, even if they’re leaner and harder to fatten up. That way fat gets that yellow healthy color, and you can tell it's high-quality meat from that alone. Unfortunately, profit seems to drive these decisions. Their eggs aren’t great either, likely from the same poor-quality chickens.
It would also be nice to see sheep marrow bones cut into smaller chunks, more organ meats, and beef stew bones on their website. Offering sheep stomach and pork trotters would be great too. I'm also curious why they don’t raise Iberico pork—it would be fantastic to have a local, high-quality source for that.
Despite my criticisms, Sumas Farm is still the best option in BC, with the cleanest meat and best practices, which is unfortunate because it highlights how low the food quality is in Canada. Lastly, I wish they used less plastic in packaging, though I understand it’s challenging to find alternatives for meat preservation.

I have been ordering from sumas on and off for a couple years now. Mostly the chicken and the pork but rarely the beef so I can’t vouch for that but the ground beef was amazing. I can understand some reviewers mentioning the tough meat as the chicken is tougher than store bought because they are free run so obviously they’d be more muscular!!! but I love the texture personally and i believe this is how meat is truly meant to be not like the ones in the supermarket! I put the wings in the oven with just salt pepper and the taste and texture is amazing!! The supermarket chicken now reminds me of tofu the flavour and the texture is just too mushy for me! They even gave me chicken eggs to try last time which was amazing as well!! I am so appreciative to live close to a farm that is so responsible and sustainable on top of providing meats that is so much more nutritious for us! Will be a long time customer. Kelly, any plans to make raw dog food packs? That would be amazing!

I have ordered delivery from Sumas Mountain Farms a couple of times now and I am very happy with their high quality meat. The price is expensive, but it is similar in cost to buying at the local butcher or from online services like TruLocal. I have ordered their chicken, eggs and beef. The chicken is the best I have ever had, better than other local farms I have purchased from. The chickens are so meaty and flavourful, and one chicken can make meals for my family for a week. They remind me of the Hutterite chickens from Alberta. I haven't tried a lot of their beef products, but I love that their beef is very lean. I love their online order system, it's so easy and they deliver every week. The delivery folks are super friendly and nice too. It's great that they are SPCA certified, and they are the only farm that I could find in the Lower Mainland that has a license to process the animals on site. The animals don't need to be transported elsewhere for processing so they are truly farm to fork.

These guys are amazing. The meat is top quality and tastes delicious. I wanted to find good humanely raised and healthy animals to eat and Sumas Mountain Farms goes above and beyond on that. If you take a minute and talk to Kelly she will tell you about her farm and why they go with the SPCA and Organic certifications. They also try their best to offer all parts of the animal for use so there is great variety on organ meats as well.
I highly recommend them to anyone I can tell who is looking to make a switch to local and organic meats raised properly. Thanks for having such awesome products!
